What’s Cooler than Zombie Movies?!

Zombie movies are the ultimate in scary movies. Even a bad zombie movie is better than most movies. True zombie fans don’t even mind insanely campy zombie movies – after all, they’re still zombie movies!

Young pawns thrust into pulsating cages of horror in a sadistic experiment.  Did… did they really say that?  But, what’s King Kong doing on the poster? Did he make a wrong turn?

Check out the movie description for this 1959 movie: A crazed female scientist uses nerve gas to turn local teenagers into her unquestioning slaves.

Well, this is good news. Rumor has it that the screen adaption of Max Brooks’ “World War Z” is destined for not just one film, not just two films, but possibly a trilogy. That’s right, THREE movies starring Brad Pitt vs. zombie apocalypse. Thank you, Hollywood.

Obviously, there’s only one “World War Z” book, but because of how the book is structured, and because of the wealth of zombie awesomeness in its pages, a trilogy isn’t far-fetched at all. Screen Crave has a little more info on their site, as does Fused Film here.

King of the Zombies, Joan Woodbury, Dick Purcell, Henry Victor, 1941

King of the Zombies was a 1941 zombie movie with a… excuse the pun… killer plot. The movie starred Dick Purcell, Joan Woodbury, Mantan Moreland, and Henry Victor (The Mummy).

From the back cover: Flyers John Archer and Dick Purcell and servant Mantan Moreland land on a Caribbean island. Mad scientist Dr. Henry Victor is busy using hypnotism and voodoo to create an army of zombies. His fiendish plan is to use them to gather secret defense information for the Axis powers. Comic Moreland turns this chiller into a hilariously funny film as he marches his fellow zombies as soldiers.

Voodoo, fiendish plans, hypnotism, army of zombies???? I’m all in.

The Zombie Movie Encyclopedia Seriously, is there anything cooler than zombie movies.

Hells no.

Good. Glad you agree. I’d just as soon spend my day kicked back watching zombie movies as doing anything. Since you’re into zombie movies, too, I know you’ll want the The Zombie Movie Encyclopedia.

I’m all for the encyclopedia and can see it being very useful for movie lovers…. but… er… check out the description from the website: Zombies are cautionary forms of humankind’s most universally cherished ideal–life after death. Often ragged, unkempt, ill-spoken, rotting individuals, zombies (or the post-dead) seem socially awkward in comparison to the more popular and more aristocratic, undead, like Count Dracula and his peers. And so, the humble zombie remains, for the most part, unappreciated and unacknowledged–until now. No longer will films devoted to them be buried in the last pages of horror movie guides. The exhumation of zombie films from obscurity is accomplished in terrifying detail in The Zombie Movie Encyclopedia. The first exhaustive overview of the subject, this book evaluates over 200 movies from 16 countries over a 65-year period starting from the early 1930s. It mostly treats feature-length films, covering everything from large studio productions to backyard videography, but also touches on memorable episodes of television series and miscellaneous shorts. Lengthy entries point out interesting or innovative features of the zombie portrayal in each movie, while an introduction traces the evolution of the genre and interprets the broader significance of the zombie in contemporary Western mythology. Productions credits, a brief plot summary, and alternate titles accompany each entry.

I have no idea what the first sentence even means, but I’m pretty sure the second one is just down-right rude. Unkempt? Rotting? Ill-spoken? Socially awkward. And seriously, Count Dracula? They really went there?

In spite of their blatant prejudice against zombies and the many discouraging words (where are the deer and the antelope when you need them…) I highly recommend the movie encyclopedia. See The Zombie Movie Encyclopedia for more information.

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night

Dylan Dog Trailer: Dead of Night

If you missed Dylan Dog Trailer: Dead of Night in theaters, be sure to grab a dvd.  The movie really didn’t get a lot of publicity, unfortunately, but it’s a lot of fun. I lucked into seeing it in theaters but plan to buy a copy of the dvd.

Why? Zombies!

Make no mistake about it, this isn’t a scary zombie movie, it’s just a lot of fun. The movie stars Brandon Routh, Kurt Angle, and Taye Diggs – each perfect in their roles.

Plot: In the New Orleans underground, Dylan Dog, a private investigator of the undead, tracks an artifact that will help prevent a war from breaking out among his werewolf, vampire, and zombie clients.

Dylan Dog will be available on Amazon on July 26, 2011 – click the link to pre-order. I guarantee if you love zombies, you’ll get a big kick out of this movie. Kurt Angle is absolutely priceless.
